LAMA Economic Research provides economic research to advance the understanding of fast evolving markets to inform regulation, antitrust and market investigations. It aims to inform policymaking in fast paced technology sectors so that policy goals are achieved in ways that support innovation.
LAMA Economic Research is led by Dr Eliana Garces. It provides a multi-disciplinary approach and partners with technology and business experts to produce relevant economic analysis based on business realities.
Dr. Eliana Garces is an economist with deep public- and private-sector antitrust and regulation experience in the US and Europe. Her experience includes serving in the Chief Economist Team at the European Commission’s Directorate-General for Competition and acting as deputy chief economist in the EC Directorate-General for Internal Market and Industry. Her consulting and case handling experience includes mergers and conduct cases in telecoms, media, industrial, reatail, financial,, and technology sectors. She served as Director for Economic Policy in a big technology company and she has advised large technology firms on regulatory matters. She is recognized as an expert in the economic analysis of new digital business models as well as on regulation in innovative sectors . She is the co-author of the widely used book Quantitative Techniques for Competition and Antitrust Analysis.
She holds a Ph.D. in Economics at the University of California at Los Angeles and is a Senior Fellow at the Competition & Innovation Lab, Institute for Public Policy, The George Washignton University.
